As Futureneers our mission is to empower organizations to create their own better future, foster sustainable growth, and drive positive change in the world.

In my role as a co-founder, I've had the privilege of working closely with various organizations, their leadership and teams on their change, transformation and innovation journeys.  

Through this experience, it has become abundantly clear to me that fostering future skills within individuals and teams is a pivotal aspect of our overarching commitment to building a better tomorrow.  
I believe that fostering future skills within the workforce is THE key to building a better tomorrow for several compelling reasons:  

  • Adaptation to Rapid Change: The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by technological advancements, globalization, and societal shifts. Future skills empower individuals and organizations to adapt swiftly to these changes, ensuring they remain competitive and resilient in the face of uncertainty.
  • Innovation and Problem-Solving: Future skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving are the driving forces behind innovation. They enable employees to identify novel solutions, improve processes, and seize opportunities for growth.

What are the Future Skills that should be developed?  

As a champion of forward-thinking strategies, Futureneers aligns with the insights and recommendations from leading institutions like the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). These influential voices collectively emphasize the urgency of future skills in navigating the complex terrain of our evolving world.  

In my experience, working closely with organizations across various industries, I've identified a core set of future skills that are imperative for good team collaboration and sustainable success:  

  • Digital Literacy: The digital era demands proficiency in digital tools, data analysis, and increasingly of course AI. It is key to enable employees to utilize modern technologies and digital tools skillfully, understand their impact on the economy and society, and employ them to enhance efficiency and drive innovation in their day to day.  
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: The ability to dissect intricate problems and devise innovative solutions is a cornerstone of success.  
    Training this muscle helps individuals and teams to recognize opportunities for progress and to develop creative solutions for any challenge.  
  • Adaptability and Resilience: In a world of constant change, adaptability and resilience are the keys to weathering storms and thriving. Individuals with high levels of this future skill are able to reflect on their own situation and actions, and act resiliently and effectively through their own efforts.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Cultivating creativity and fostering innovative thinking are catalysts for progress. Especially in the light of economic pressure and uncertainty these future skills are essential to rise above and get ahead of the competition  
  • Collaboration and Communication: Effective collaboration and clear communication underpin successful teamwork, especially in today's interconnected world. This future skill harnesses the power of storytelling and enables people and teams to communicate constructively, consciously, and effectively to achieve solutions and share outcomes collectively.  
  • Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and managing emotions, both one's own and those of others, is vital for building strong relationships.  
    To be able to empathize with the thoughts and emotions of other people ensures that people act situationally appropriately.  
  • Cultural Competence: As workplaces become more diverse and global, the ability to navigate cultural nuances is a significant asset.
  • Leadership and Entrepreneurship: Inspirational leadership and an entrepreneurial mindset drive positive change and growth.  
    Employees that at entrepreneurially, visionarily, and results-oriented, even in the face of new challenges, are key for an organization’s success.
  • Environmental and Social Awareness: Recognizing the importance of sustainability and social responsibility is integral to responsible global citizenship. Leaders and teams that understand the long-term environmental impact of their actions and decisions at work, ensure that organizations build towards a better future and support the protection of future generations  
  • Learning Agility: Embracing continuous learning and upskilling is crucial in a rapidly evolving job market. Employees that are open to new things and engage in shaping their own learning process show and increase of motivation and ownership in the workplace.
